Can I Have Legal and Expert Support During Collaborative Divorce?

December 10, 2021

Legal and Expert Support during Collaborative Divorce Yes, that is the benefit of the collaborative divorce process. The process is an out of court process. It does feature two attorneys representing two different clients and the attorneys provide legal information and legal support for the process and the attorneys draft up the necessary legal documents. The neutral experts who are involved are typically a financial neutral who has the education and skill set and expertise to very efficiently and effectively identify all of the relevant financial information, organize it and present it in a neutral, balanced manner to the parties.

The financial neutral would also provide financial information to the from start to finish as is appropriate for the parties to then make their decisions as to what financial outcomes are fair and right for their family. Likewise, there would be a coach who comes from a mental health background and may be very knowledgeable about specific areas such as parenting through divorce or substance abuse or whatever the issues are that this family needs (special education considerations, needs of disabled children, and emotional health needs of the family). There are coaches who can help the family and that’s the kind of information the coach would provide. The coach is also the keeper of the collaborative divorce process. That is, the coach works not to provide therapy. They do not provide individual therapy, but they try to help the clients to stay on track, to stay focused on decision making, to not let the emotions that sometimes get in the way of effective decision making to basically undermine the progress toward resolution. And they just plain help the parties to communicate more effectively what their interests are and what their priorities are. So the coach is very helpful in bringing the matters to closure.

In summary, the collaborative divorce process is an extremely supported and extremely structured process. There is this support system that takes you all the way through the process to resolution and completion of your divorce process.
