The length of the divorce process will vary depending on a variety of factors. The first factor is the process you choose for the termination of your marriage. If you choose a process like collaborative divorce, you and your spouse will decide how long the process will take. We find that the “average” collaborative divorce process takes between 3 to 6 meetings which may occur over a few to several months. For a contested litigated divorce without children, you can expect to have your trial in about a year after the date that your divorce is filed. And if you do have children, your trial date will be approximately 18 months after the date of filing of the divorce case.
